Rick Santorum Will Run for President: ‘We’re In It to Win’

And with that another Republican candidate jumped into the race of 2012 this morning on “GMA.”

“We are ready to announce that we will be in this race and we’re in it to win,” said Rick Santorum.

Santorum, a former two-term senator from Pennsylvania, formally kick off his campaign in his home state after this morning near a coal mine where his grandfather worked after emigrating from Italy.

The father of seven has been a frequent spectacle in the early voting states. This week is no exception with a trip to Iowa tomorrow followed by another trip to the first in the nation-state primary on Wednesday. But he is behind in the polls. The latest Gallup poll has him at 2 percent behind Palin Romney 19 Ron Paul 15 and 13.

Santorum rose to third place in the Republican leadership of the Senate, but lost his 2006 bid for a third term as Senator Bob Casey of 18 points. Since then he has served as principal investigator for the Ethics and Public Policy Center and an analyst for Fox News, until his contract was suspended on 02 March as they discuss their plans in 2012.
